"Hurricane Irma live updates: FPL restores power for 200,000, official say ‘Don’t go home yet’"

This article talked about what happened during this weekend in a lot of areas in South Florida. Hurricane Irma has done a lot of damage to the people in the Caribbean and in Miami. When the storm hit the Keys and Miami it was a category 4 that destroyed a lot of peoples homes and created a lot of flood in downtown Miami. People have to stay in shelters until they are given the okay to return back to their homes. Many people don’t have electricity due to the power lines that were knocked out and FPL (Florida Power Light) is trying to fix as many houses as they can. Also, many people are not able to leave their houses because there were a lot of knocked down trees in the middle of the roads. Even though people were prepared it was a huge surprise for a lot of Floridians and it did affect many people and big cities.

This story talks about how a teacher in Utah gave a questionnaire to its students that asked questions about how many things students have done certain things. After the students answer the questions the test determines how “pure” they are. Students had to fill this out and it was considered a grade for a class. One of the students parents saw how their child sad because they were “pure” according to the test. The problem here is how a teacher gave its students a questionnaire to see what sexual things they have done. Not only is it an invasion of privacy, but it made students think they were a bad person for being so pure or not that pure at all.

In this article it talks about how the hurricane Irma had a huge impact on South Florida. A lot of places around Miami got destroyed and left with no power and many schools were used as a protection center for the people around the area. Miami-Dade public schools wanted to start school this Monday, but unfortunately some schools still don’t have power. Many schools have half a building with power and the other half doesn’t have power or no power at all. This is a huge problem, because student are not going to school for already two weeks, they are missing classes and content in which they should be covering. Even though it may seem like a mini vacation for most people, but in reality it will be worse for everyone in the long run.

In the past few weeks we have seen a lot of hurricanes and tropical storms forming. Hurricane Irma had a huge impact in the Caribbean and most of South Florida. Puerto Rico got hit by Irma pretty bad and it is taking them a really long time to recover from he hurricane. After Irma another hurricane came called Jose, and now Maria category four also destroyed San Jose. A lot of people don’t have electricity or even food to keep going. People are not allowed to leave their house until they are informed to do so.

UF Engineering students want to give back to their Gainesville community. UF created a program in which Engineering student will go to elementary school around the Gainesville area and teach kids more about STEM. The problem is that a lot of kids are not being taught correctly math or science nowadays and this way with this program kids will learn about something very interesting were they can grow. Since they are kids this way they can learn quicker and be better off in the future.
