27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

This time I read "The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users", by Guy Kawasaki

1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?

-The general theme of the book is that even though in today’s society we use social media in an excess amount of time, social media this way can determine the success of your business or idea. Social media can influence success on a business and help it grow in today's society.

2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?

  • This book connected with I am learning in ENT 3003, because it overall taught me how important marketing and advertising is in a business model. It also taught me that social media helps as well to make a business grow and it is a tool used for accomplishing a goal.

3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?

  • If I had to design an exercise for this class about the book I read. Since the book talked about how social media affects a business model then I would put and example of a social media post and then interpret it and see how that sample may or may not help a business.

4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?

  • Overall the whole book was about the different ways how social media has benefitted a company I felt like this was just very interesting and also seeing the different types of ways social media is beneficial to a company.

26A – Celebrating Failure

In each semester we tend to have goals that we want to meet. Some times these goals are not unmet, because things happen in our day-to-day life that pertain us from meeting that goal. Failure is something very common and it is something that we see often. This semester has been a tough one at least for me, but I have had the chance to stand up tall and overcome that failure. College is place to find yourself and to have fun, but also succeeded in your career. Students can also get overwhelmed the many things the school has to offer. This semester I had a lot of things on my plate and I felt like I wasn’t fulfilling everything that I wanted to do. I wasn’t doing well in my classes and I wasn’t happy about it. I started to think and learn from my mistakes and grow from them. Failure is hard, but it all depends on how you take and how you want tot proceed from it. This class has taught me to have an end goal and even though there are some ups and downs on the way it, it will only make you stronger.

25A – What’s Next?

  1. Next in terms of product is to create the application and partner up with healthy food restaurants and UF gyms in order to finally release the app and make it work. All my interviewers agreed with me in terms of what I had to do next. They also suggested to have a sponsor to have money for the app. The goal for the next two months is to focus in partnering with healthy food restaurant/shopping like lucky, trader joes, grill fresh, vale, and 3 natives. Also for the app to have fulll function I will also have to partner with local Gainesville gyms and UF gym.
  2. I learned that it is a way to make connections and see what is out there. It is also a way to understand what people like in order to advertise the app and make the business a good one.

24A – Venture Concept No. 1

My name is Costanza, and I am a Sustainability and The Built Environment major with a minor in innovation. I am a person who thinks outside of the box and has a lot of creative ideas. When you first meet me I am shy, but then I am very outgoing. My brainstorming skills are very good and could help this business. My aspirations are to build an app that counts how much exercise you’ve done meanwhile earn points and then get discounts to healthy food restaurants . This business would play a role in my life because I love to work out and eat healthy, and this could surely help many people do that. I am offering a healthy fast food option to my customers that are on the go but need to eat healthy. I will solve my customers problems of eating unhealthy because of lack of money. Instead of turning to Mcdonald’s for a quick bite, they can turn to a healthy alternative like grill fresh for a small amount of money. This app works like a point system, so if you do a lot of exercise/stay fit you can earn money to then eat healthy. In Gainesville there is a large percentage rate on obesity. There are many people who eat unhealthy and don’t go to the gym as often. I am offering customers the ability to be fit and healthy while at the same time saving money. This will help people spend money while trying to be healthy. This app will make you earn points whenever you’re exercising and with those points you can buy discounts for healthy restaurants or food markets. I am offering to every student in UF. UF has a large percentage of people that are obese and I will like to help those people who need it and would want to do something to help themselves. Also for the people that are constantly exercising and eating healthy these this is an app that can help them be more healthier and fit. Also in the long run I would like to create this app and expanded more in the Gainesville area and maybe in the future do it nationally. Customers will actually pay for this, because this is something that in the long run will help them and it is something that it is beneficial for their day-to-day lives. The app will make them use less money, exercise more, and eat healthier. Even though there are apps out there that may do the same thing as this app that I am proposing, the only difference is that this app will be partner up with healthy restaurants and food markets. This way the customers earns points whenever they exercise and then they can purchase any discounts on healthy foods.

23A – Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage

  1. $15,000 starting capital

V - $15,000 is a lot because a certain amount of money is required to start a new product.
R - rare because were would the money come from.
I - This is inimitable, because it depends on who has that amount of money
N - There are not exactly other resources that can do the same thing, but new thinking could replace the need for more money.

2. Free Time/Time Management

V - it is valuable time for everyone
R - Depends on what they do
I - your choice to see where and when you want to spend your time

3. Culture

V - Depends on what people are use to and what they do.
R - I don’t think it is rare people do have cultures and if not a somewhat of a routine
I - This is inimitable for sure. There are people that value their culture

4. Connections with Other Entrepreneurs

V - This is very valuable because ideas and tactics can be spread and developed.
R - This is certainly not rare because other entrepreneurs are connecting with each other.
I - Inimitability definitely exists here because everyone is connected.
N - This is non-substitutable because you cannot really replace the connections made between the minds of entrepreneurs.

22A – Elevator Pitch No. 3

This time I tried to include all of my peers comments.  I shorten my speech and made sure I included everything that I needed to say in a short amount of time. It was a lot easier doing it this time, because I know what I had to say.

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

  • The general theme Mindset by Carol Dweck was that everything that we do in our day-to-day life all comes from our mindset. Sometimes we are too busy to focus on the small things that we tend to do on a daily basis, but simple things here are there is what makes up out life. In this book we see how the mindset works and how it is the view of your qualities and characteristics that shape our lives.
  • While reading this book I can say I remembered a lot of the things we learned for ENT3003. This book talked a lot about what we do and our actions. While reading this all I could think about was how our mindset influences our ideas and how we want to develop ideas, which is something we talked about in this class.
  • If I had to design an exercise for this class based on what I read is that I would show a group of people a picture of an object. When I show them this, I would go around an see what everyone thought about that one object and we can see smilier and differences between people and how their mindset works.
  • The biggest surprise in this book was that there are good and bad mindsets. We don’t notice how a person can think so differently compare to you because we tend to hang out with people that think the same way or like similar things. But in this book we can see how everyone has a different mindset.

30A – Final Reflection

Overall, I have had a good experience with this class.   A lot  of the assignments I felt like they were very meaningful and others were sor...
